olemint is a new blockchain and cryptocurrency that utilizes the Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism. PoA is a consensus algorithm that utilizes known and reputable validators to achieve consensus and validate transactions. Unlike other consensus mechanisms like Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, PoA relies on identity rather than digital assets. As a permissioned system, PoA requires trust in validators, making it unsuitable for most non-enterprise applications. However, it offers an efficient solution for private blockchains and has been implemented in Ethereum's Parity and Geth clients. PoA has high Byzantine Fault Tolerance and is more environmentally friendly than other consensus mechanisms, making it an attractive option for private blockchain networks.
