Root Beer Float (RBF)

According to popular legend, the root beer float was invented by Frank J. Wisner in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on August 19, 1893.
The story goes that Wisner, the owner of a local brewing company, was inspired by the sight of the snow-capped Cow Mountain under a full moon. The image of the white snow on the dark mountain reminded him of a scoop of vanilla ice cream floating in dark root beer. He rushed back to his bar, created the drink, and named it the "Black Cow Mountain," which was later shortened to "Black Cow."
However, there is also a competing claim. Some sources credit Robert M. Green with inventing the "ice cream soda" in Philadelphia in 1874, nearly two decades before Wisner's creation. Green's account states he ran out of ice on a hot day and used ice cream as a substitute, creating a new popular drink. While this story credits Green with the invention of the general ice cream float, Wisner is still widely recognized as the inventor of the specific root beer float.
