Maneki (MANEKI)

The origin of the Maneki Neko, or beckoning cat, is rooted in the Japanese Edo period (1603–1868) and involves several legends, with the most prominent featuring a cat that saved a samurai or lord from a lightning strike by beckoning them to safety, leading to their subsequent patronage of a temple or shrine. While the exact legend is disputed, the concept began with simple clay figurines from the Imado kilns and spread as a symbol of good fortune, wealth, and customers, particularly for businesses.
