🐘 Kaja, a New Breath of Life at Opel Zoo

On May 27, 2025, a small miracle arrived at Opel Zoo in Kronberg, Germany — the birth of Kaja, an adorable African elephant calf. Born to 19-year-old Kariba after a 22-month pregnancy, Kaja is more than just a newborn: she is the first elephant to be born at the zoo in over 57 years.

From her very first steps, Kaja has captured hearts with her lively curiosity, her boundless energy, and her close bond with her mother. She trots clumsily around the enclosure, exploring her surroundings with her wobbly little trunk and delighting visitors with her playful spirit. Her light gray, wrinkled skin, oversized flappy ears, and wide, inquisitive eyes give her a look that is both comical and irresistibly sweet.
