Intoxicated Raccoon (LIBL)

It happened on the morning of Saturday, December 2, 2025 (Black Friday weekend). A raccoon broke into the closed Ashland ABC Store (Virginia’s state-run liquor store) by falling through a ceiling tile. It then went on a full-blown rampage: knocking bottles off the bottom shelves (scotch, whiskey, rum, moonshine, peanut butter whiskey—you name it), smashing at least a dozen to 14 bottles worth around $250 in damage, and apparently lapping up enough spilled booze to get heavily intoxicated. 
An employee discovered the chaos when opening the store and found the “masked bandit” passed out cold on the bathroom floor, right between the toilet and a trash can. Animal control officers from Hanover County Animal Protection & Shelter responded, safely removed the very intoxicated raccoon, let it sober up at the shelter with no injuries reported, and then released it back into the wild.
Surveillance video later released showed the raccoon dropping in from the ceiling and trashing the place. Officials joked it was “living its best life” — and it turns out this wasn’t even its first break-in; it had previously raided a DMV and a karate studio for snacks.
